What paint to repaint a bathroom?
Special paints bathrooms contain components such as fungicides or grease film, which makes it more resistant than the classical painting. Some anti-condensation paint form an anti-fog screen that prevents mold and moisture stains.
The alkyd paints, known for their resistance to moisture, are separated by European regulations because of their toxic components. Acrylic paints sales topped with specially designed wet rooms formulas. Advantages: they are low in solvents, nearly odorless and dry quickly.
Natural paints, based on castor oil, soy or flax, also available in washable version and moisture resistant. Unlike synthetic paints, they contain no volatile organic compounds (VOC) and no resin resulting from the petroleum industry. Totally odorless, they have the best coverage, which offsets their higher price since it uses less. Among the natural products, the brainchild of painting bathroom: the lime paint, provided you add a oléohydrofuge protection or finishing soap for moisture resistance.
Paint, resin or plaster to cover the tiles
The tiles can also be covered. 4 possible methods:
- A special bathroom paint tiles or resin, which apply directly;
- A special sub-layer tiles, which can then pass all painting of their choice (most economical);
- A coating, to striking decorative effects (tadelakt, stone, concrete, metal ...), which gives a totally smooth surface covering the gaps between tiles.
A satin finish for painting the bathroom
We distinguish matt, satin or gloss. Matte finishes are excluded for a painting bathroom because too susceptible to stains and moisture. The glossy finish reflects light and expands space; waterproof and washable, ideal for wet rooms, but it highlights all the imperfections of the support. The satin finish, bright and also washable, is often the best compromise for bathroom paint.
The finish can be included in the paint for bathroom (special paint tiles, for example), or to apply separately. In the case of a coating, applying a water repellent solution or varnish is essential to protect it from moisture.
Color to create a mood
The special tile paintings and natural paints still offer a limited range of colors. In the case of different materials to cover, including tile and wall, make sure the colors are in agreement.
